Why I Believe in Miracles The Rose
|
Last night on TV, I saw a two year old blind boy playing the piano. That is
a miracle. Recently, I saw an interview with a man who had no voice box
who could not only talk, but could also sing. That is a miracle. Just about
everyday I hear of someone who was diagnosed with some incurable
condition who went back to the doctor to be told that the condition could
not be found. These are all miracles but, these are not why I believe in
miracles. I could tell you about the time my six year old daughter was hit by
a car that was going 60 miles per hour and did not have a scratch or bruise
on her, but still, this is not why I believe in miracles.
So why do I believe in miracles? It is not because of these one in a million
occurrences. It is because of the million and one little miracles that make
up life that makes me marvel and believe in miracles.
Knowing that the same rain and sun that makes the grass green also puts
the red and yellow and white in the rose, that the same sky that brings a
gentle cooling breeze after a hot Ohio summer day also brings the
hurricane winds only 800 miles away on the eastern sea coast, these are
miracles to me. When my youngest grandson takes time from his friends
to call me on his mother’s cell phone and says, “Grandma, go outside and
watch the sunset with me. It is so beautiful.” Having a friend you can laugh
with and cry with and enjoy walks in the park with or just sit quietly and
know that they still enjoy your company. These are miracles. Having
friends who will sponsor you in a writing contest and asks nothing in return
( except an occasional invitation to visit you in Arizona), this is a blessing
and a miracle. Miracles are every day blessings. But even these are not
the reasons I believe in miracles.
I believe in miracles because GOD believes in the miracle of me. GOD
who controls the universe has enough faith in me to give me free will. He
has entrusted the lives of my children to me. He brings friends and
strangers to me and trust that I will treat them the way He would treat them,
with love and truth. GOD, who suffered so for our sins, forgives me when I
sin. GOD, who created all things, knows my name and cares for me. He
takes time to talk with me and comfort me, instruct me and at times correct
me. Being a child of the living GOD is what makes me believe in miracles.
One last miracle. The other day GOD told me I had to sever a relationship
with a very dear, long time friend. I am very distressed over this but I must
trust that GOD knows what He is doing. I was talking to a mutual friend of
ours and crying bitterly. I was saying how I would miss seeing the garden
that my friend and I had been working on together for the past two years.
This year he planted roses because I love them so much. I was saying how
I would never see them bloom. Than there, at my feet, on her patio where
we were sitting so her husband would not hear me crying, in the middle of
an Ohio February, with ice still on the ground, was a yellow rose, the
fragrance still lingering. How can I not believe in miracles?
